A Message from Hayesy

Welcome to the first edition of the Blackwood News on our new web site. We are really excited with the new web site going live. Just like Blackwood It is far from finished. It is our intent to constantly add and improve information on the site. The Blackwood web site will evolve!  I think we have made a good start and we would welcome any feedback. A few thankyous are in order. The first thankyou is to our long time supporter the Allens Charity Committee, Allens >< Linklaters, for financially supporting the development of the site, and secondly to Gihan Perera, First Step Communications, and John Mace, Stockyard Computers, for their technical expertise and on-going support. I hope viewers find our site interesting and worthwhile.

Blackwood Turns 20

Blackwood celebrates it’s twentieth birthday this year. This is an amazing achievement.

Starting from quite humble beginnings and by just improving our program and facilities a little bit at a time Blackwood has developed into an outstanding facility for young people wanting to do better. Keep tuned for upcoming celebratory events.

1401 Blackwood Heat

The Heat group consists of 19 students – 7 girls & 12 boys. Students attending are enrolled at 10 different schools – Drouin SC, Warragul RC, Lowanna C, Traralgon SC, Berwick SC, Kurnai – Churchill, Kurnai – Morwell, Pakenham SC, Trafalgar HS and Marist Sion C.

The Blackwood Heat group is halfway through their program and are well and truly getting ready for the Deep Pass Wilderness Camp in the Blue Mountains which will be conducted in May. This will be the thirty-fourth (34) camp!  It was most unfortunate that we were unable to take the Raiders group last October due to the bush fires in NSW. Blackwood staff are looking forward to taking the Heat group to Deep Pass.

Blackwood’s New Chaplain

We would like to welcome Oscar Correa as Blackwood’s Chaplain. Oscar brings a wealth of experience with him, and we look forward to him sharing his experience and knowledge with our students. Oscar will be working at Blackwood on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
